I eat a lot of delicious food and Public Kitchen & Bar is on the list of top 10 meals I’ve had at a restaurant. Their expertise, precision and creativity is shown in each dish presented. The tapas style menu is excellent for sharing because you will want to have a taste of as many menu items as possible.
Public Kitchen and Bar likely deserves their own post, but it was more so a cherry on top of the fun filled day with three friends of mine. Early in the morning on Saturday, we went to the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival.
You have to get there early because even on that freezing cold day at 9:00 am, the parking lots were packed and people filled the street. The first thing on the agenda was to get pancakes and warm drinks. They dish out pancakes at a remarkable rate and have litres of maple syrup to top them off.
There was even an old fashioned potato pancake stand so that I could get my full while avoiding the “evil gluten”.
It was tasty, but still not as tasty as a real pancake. It was still a good vehicle for maple syrup which is really the only reason to eat pancakes. Right?
The maple syrup sticky buns at one of the vendors were just too good not to pass up. So I bought one for my boyfriend, plus a bar of peanut butter and chocolate fudge for myself.
Every time I go to the syrup festival, I have to get a sausage from one of the vendors. There is nothing like a bratwurst sausage with mustard and sauerkraut from a cart!
I also tried the maple syrup baked beans from a vendor that also offered a number of gluten free bake mixes made from bean flours.
The amount of meat present at this event is insane. It always makes me wonder how we can produce this much food. I opted not to eat the caveman drumstick.
The maple syrup rendering demonstration attracts a lot of people and you can taste the maple sugar right off of the snow.
It was cold, so I grabbed a latte at The Wandering Bean. It was awesome. Look out of them at community events all over Ontario!
The last dish of the day was perogies for my friend. That capped off all of the must-haves of food at the festival.
We took an afternoon break and played a few board games, ran some errands and went to a yard sale.
The day finished off at Public Kitchen & Bar in Kitchener.
The drink menu has a number of different cocktails, beers, wines and liquor. There is a special cocktail almost every night, so try it out!
The menu changes a bit every time you go and there is always a special. To start out, try to order one item for every person in your party. So if you have 4 people, order 4 dishes. You can always get another dish after!
We enjoyed the grapefruit and fennel salad. The salads aren’t just any old salad here so try one out. You won’t regret it.
The special that evening was potatoes with home made nacho cheese sauce and pulled pork hock. It was devoured…
Public is a smaller restaurant and the service is great because of it. If you want a reservation, call about a week ahead of time in order to get the time and party size you want.
